Kyle Meyr
Can you imagine being a full-time adventure photographer whose main task is to hunt for the next perfect vista, valley or peak? Meet Kyle Meyr (b. 1990), who spends his life outdoors hiking and exploring.
Kyle was born and raised in Maryland, USA, but relocated to Norway with family. After studying journalism in London, he was drawn more to the outdoors than the big city and moved to Austria to work full time in the ski industry. Coming back to Norway in 2015 he brought a sense of adventure and love of mountains with him. Ever since, he has been shooting commercial and adventure photography full time and exploring Norway along the way.
“But for every peak I reach, there are ten more I haven’t. Thus, the adventure continues…,” he laughs.
“I’ve always been a story-teller. Having studied and practiced journalism, photography was a natural progression for me. I just didn't realize how addictive it would be! I started shooting skiing and sports, but began to love the mountains and nature regardless. Without the comfort of the studio or guarantee of good weather, your photo skills are bound to grow to handle any sort of environment.”
Kyle likes his photos to reflect the way he remembers the adventure. He believes it’s more than just showing a certain mountain or light, it’s building connotations in photos that trigger the senses.
“My favorite photo moment came during a Helsport trip we took to Rago. Spending a week in one of Norway's youngest and least-discovered national parks was such a wonderful adventure. With clear and sunny skies all day and northern lights at night, there was not a single thing standing between us and the greatest tenting experience one could have in the beautiful autumn gilded landscapes.”
Naturally, he is also a big fan of Helsport’s Rago-series.
“My favorite Helsport product is the Rago Superlight Winter. You can have the greatest tent in the world, but without the most capable sleeping bag, you won't be sleeping very well. With as much hiking as I like to do, weight is key. At just 1 kilo, this sleeping bag packs tiny and light, making it the perfect adventure companion for yours truly.”
