Why use a sleeping bag liner

A liner is a comfortable inner bag for sleeping bags or for use with duvets. One of the biggest benefits is that it helps protect against wear and keeps your sleeping bag clean. Sleeping bag liners prevent sweat and other moisture from permeating the sleeping bag, as this can reduce its heat capacity. In addition, using a sleeping bag liner is advisable if several people use the same sleeping bag, for example other family members. It also means that you don’t have to wash the sleeping bag so often, you can wash the liner instead. Sleeping bag liners are also perfect on hot nights, when you can simply use the sleeping bag as a duvet.

We divide sleeping bag liners into two shapes:

  • Mummy-shaped sleeping bag liners for use with standard sleeping bags

  • Rectangular sleeping bag liners for use with duvets and pillows

Liners for sleeping bags are mummy-shaped, which makes them easily adaptable to the shape of the sleeping bag. They are standard length and width, and fit all mummy-shaped sleeping bags.

Rectangular liners are designed for use on their own or as covers for duvets and pillows or with rectangular sleeping bags. This is the perfect liner for use in tourist huts or whilst travelling.

The liners are very easy to carry and are an excellent alternative to sleeping bags in cabins and huts. And it saves you from carrying heavy bed linen or a sleeping bag.

Sleeping bag liners come in three different materials:

Silk

  • Lightweight, takes up very little space in your backpack
  • Very comfortable against the skin
  • Dries quickly
  • Has minimum odour after use
  • Makes the sleeping bag feel warmer - Gives your sleeping bag a few extra degrees of warmth.

Which type should you choose?

First of all, think about what you need the sleeping bag liner for. Is it for use in a sleeping bag or with a duvet and pillow? With standard sleeping bags, the mummy shape is the most suitable, and the rectangular liners are best for duvets.

Which material you find most comfortable is up to you. If the weight is important, silk is a good choice. If you prioritise comfort and mobility,Thermolite is an excellent alternative. Cotton, however, is very durable.

Visit your nearest sports store, test the materials, and find out what feels best on your skin.

Have a great trip and sleep tight!
